Huruma health training Institute was established March, 1981 under Sisters of Our Lady of Kilimanjaro within the premises of Huruma Hospital to train Pre-service nursing students. It started the same time as the hospital.

Since its inception, the school has been enrolling students mostly from within and few from outside Tanzania.

The school has been running a four-year Diploma course in nursing since its establishment. Following the current reforms in health training, this program is now a three-year nursing program offering an Ordinary Diploma at National Technical Award (NTA) Level 6.

The institute is registered by Tanzania Nurses and Midwives Council


It is also registered by National Council for Technical Education (NACTE) which is registering body for all technical institution with registration number REG/HAS/059

The institute implements NACTE and TNMC approved curriculum in implement its programs.

The certificate/diploma programs are designed to provide an innovative education which is responsive to society needs and demands, while not compromising both learner and professional needs and demands. Students are central focus for professional development and sustainability.

Within a learning environment, learner will acquire knowledge, professional competencies and attitudes.

The training is conducted in a semester module, where by one academic year consist of two semesters. One semester comprises of twenty two (22) weeks which include class and clinical practice hours
